Boo!...Just Kidding

Hi!

Hope you weren't too scared but here is a fact that should rattle you. Every Plastic Ever Made still Exists!

Plastic is everywhere. It’s a material so prevalent in our lives today we can hardly imagine life without it. We can barely leave the supermarket without at least one plastic product.

Although, there was a time when there were no plastic containers on earth. In fact, there are many people alive today who lived during that time. Initially, plastic was revolutionary in the manufacturing industry. Plastic was so cheap, everyone could afford it: plastic containers, plastic furniture, plastic toys. It made daily life much more comfortable.

However, like the house guest that has overstayed their welcome, the plastic products manufactured just won’t leave our planet. Plastic lasts so long that every piece that was ever made still exists and will continue to exist for another 500 years.

This is why we need to make recycling our plastic containers a daily habit.

Recycling is the action of converting waste into a reusable material. There are many types of recyclable materials and there are different types of recycling processes. To recycle plastics, the products have to be broken down, back to their original form of either PET or HDPE, and then they’re used to create something else. This saves the time it takes to mine for the raw natural resources to create new plastics and it also saves the environment which would have been affected to extract those natural resources.

There are many other benefits of recycling but these two are the most exciting:

  1. You can get the emotional value of fulfilment by donating the plastics to any of the drop off locations island wide. There is a comprehensive list of locations on our website: www.recyclingja.com
  2. You can get the financial value of the Deposit Return Scheme, which is $50 per kilogram of plastics that are brought to any of our depots island wide, also listed on the website. If you have the space to store up to 68kgs (10 to 15 large garbage bags), call in for a free collection, but the payment per kilogram in this case is $48.

The perfect time to start recycling is TODAY!

So, now that you understand a major benefit to recycling and the values available to you, are you recycling your PET and HDPE plastics?

It seems simple enough, right? That’s because it is!

Plastic may be here with us for a long time but it is up to us to #Putplasticinitsplace and recycle. It’s the only way to keep these materials out of the natural environment.
