It's Recycling Week and we are celebrating the WINs of Recycling! Now more than ever before Jamaicans are buying into the idea of reclaiming their plastics to enjoy the many benefits it provides.
1. Being good to the environment
If you're an avid recycler, you know the pure satisfaction of full bag of plastics ready to be deposited in the recycling bin. It doesn't stop there though. That simple act of kindness to the environment is way more impactful than you might realize.
Of the millions of plastic bottles produced in Jamaica annually, only a small percentage even makes it to the landfill (which is not a good place for them either). Most of the plastics are lodged on the coastlines, gullies, drains and roadsides. This is very harmful to the environment and threatens marine life and food quality. We caused this and we can stop it.
2. Build a stream of income

3. Transform your community
This one may seem big but it starts with a small step. You can request that a recycling receptacle be placed in your community and have persons deposit their bags of plastics there. Your community can also earn from this collection.
To take it a step further, you can look at the schools nearby that may be part of our Schools' Recycling Programme. They would be happy to receive your donation of plastic bottles towards their recycling initiative. It's an important source of funds for schools.
